BroadWeb Successfully Protects Customers Against New IE 0-Day Exploits

Burlingame, Calif., March 27 – BroadWeb Corp. announced today that its NetKeeper Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) provide protection for the newly discovered IE createTextRange() vulnerability. This new IE flaw was not identified till March 22, when the zero-day exploit was first reported by security research institutes.

It has been confirmed that a fully patched Microsoft XP SP2 with IE 6.0/ IE 7.0 Beta 2 Preview is affected by this vulnerability. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can allow an attacker to take complete control of the victim. Countermeasure patches from Microsoft are still not available yet.

“More than 200 unique URLs are known to exploit this vulnerability; these web sites are created by hackers with a clear criminal intention”, said Stephen Tseng, director of Broadweb international sales department, “If users visit these malicious URLs, their computers will be installed with Trojan horse, Bots, Spyware, or key loggers unknowingly.”

Broadweb BSST (BroadWeb Security Service Team) suggests that BroadWeb IPS users upgrade their signature patterns to version 3.41 or later in order to guard against the IE zero-day exploits.
