Broadweb and NCTU developed the information security mechanism of Android mobile devices


The Android operating system in the smartphone market share has become number one in the world, and all kinds of the theft behaviors of malware programs attacking have been found in the Android smart mobile devices. The market demands more on the security issue of the Android smart mobile device. Boradweb Technology Company and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) have teamed up to participate in the industry-academic cooperation program in the Science-Based Industrial Park and have successfully developed the information security protection mechanisms of the Android smart mobile device. The results have been stunning that the security frame of monitoring network packets of Android has been developed and it has become the first phone intrusion detection defense system for the vulnerability of Android smartphone firewall.


Unlike the anti-virus software which focus on the files scanning, the Android information security mechanism emphasizes on the network-end packet scanning in order to make up for the lack of anti-virus software. The system functions include firewall, intrusion detection and defense mechanism, data loss prevention mechanism, professional database URL filtering mechanism, analysis the behavior on the Android application through a network packet analysis, finding the potential of Trojan malware, analysis the Android application through JAVA API and system call interception, and the prevention of data loss.


Liu Ron Tai, the CEO of Broadweb Technology company, indicates that the development of Android security system can inspect not only the cell phone's TCP-IP which is able to prevent malware but also monitor the installed application to prevent the attacking on the Android operating system and the bottom system program from malware in order to ensure the cellphone system security. In addition, it supports the feature code automatic upgrading service that has the best team service and the latest feature code data base. In terms of the performance and the availability, the latency on application caused by the security mechanism only takes 10% on the whole processing time. Moreover, it barely will consume the cell phone battery.


Broadweb has put much effort on intrusion detection and prevention technology for a long time. In the past, it focused most on high-speed network processing. Today, facing the limited resources on Android mobile device, such as computing, RAM, and electricity, our company and NCTU have successfully developed the information security protection mechanisms of the Android smart mobile device through the optimization of algorithms and the function. In the near future, the firewall and intrusion defense functions for Android smart mobile will be sold into the market to assist the user’s core operational system and personal information security.
